Ministry of Ayush Expands Global Footprint with Academic Chairs and 50 International MoUs
In a significant move to internationalize India's traditional healthcare systems, the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has established AYUSH academic chairs in Bangladesh, Australia, Mauritius, Latvia, and Malaysia. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) systems globally through academic partnerships and research collaborations.
What is the AYUSH Chair Programme?
The AYUSH Chair Programme is a flagship initiative that places distinguished scholars of Indian traditional medicine in universities abroad. These experts are tasked with promoting AYUSH education, conducting collaborative research, and enhancing awareness of India’s ancient healthcare wisdom in international academic circles.
🌍 Countries Hosting AYUSH Academic Chairs:
-
Bangladesh
-
Australia
-
Mauritius
-
Latvia
-
Malaysia
These countries were selected to act as strategic nodes for the global promotion of AYUSH systems of medicine.
Key Objectives of the AYUSH Chair Programme
The Ministry of Ayush has laid out 11 primary objectives to guide the functioning of these academic chairs:
-
Promote AYUSH-based research and academic activities in foreign institutions.
-
Develop and finalize AYUSH curriculum for short-term and medium-term courses in alignment with Indian standards.
-
Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in line with the host university’s syllabus.
-
Explore opportunities for collaborative research in AYUSH systems.
-
Act as an authentic knowledge source on AYUSH for the host country and its neighboring regions.
-
Coordinate with the Indian Embassy/High Commission, host university, and the Ministry of Ayush.
-
Organize AYUSH workshops, seminars, and public awareness programs.
50 MoUs Signed with Global Institutions
To reinforce its international efforts, the Ministry of Ayush has signed 50 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with renowned international institutions. These MoUs aim to:
-
Promote research collaboration on Indian systems of medicine.
-
Develop joint academic programs in AYUSH disciplines.
-
Encourage knowledge exchange between Indian and foreign universities.
Boosting Global Presence of Traditional Indian Medicine
This global academic outreach is part of the Ministry's strategic plan to integrate AYUSH with mainstream global healthcare by fostering innovation, education, and research. With growing global interest in natural, holistic, and preventive healthcare, AYUSH is gaining momentum as a viable alternative and complementary system of medicine.
